Professional Firefighters of Clackamas County
International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) - Local 1159
The Professional Firefighters Association of Clackamas County is an International Association of Fire Fighters AFL-CIO affiliate Local. Local 1159 represents over 335 firefighters and paramedics from Canby Fire District #62, Clackamas Fire District #1, Estacada Fire District #69, Gladstone Fire Department, Lake Oswego Fire Department, Molalla Fire District #73 and Sandy Fire District #72. Our mission is to ensure that all members are treated fairly and equally focusing on wages, hours, working conditions, retirement securities and safety. It is our goal to improve the standard of living for our members, families and communities we serve.
March was a busy and productive month for our members across Clackamas County. From emergency response and training to community engagement and union advocacy, our firefighters and paramedics continued to show up and deliver at the highest level.
Throughout the month, crews spent countless hours sharpening their skills, responding to calls, and supporting one another both on and off duty. We also continued important conversations surrounding staffing, safety, and the future of our fire service, ensuring that the voices of our members are heard and represented.
Beyond the job, our members stayed active in the community, building relationships and representing Local 1159 with professionalism and pride.
We are proud of the work being done every day by our members. Thank you to everyone who continues to serve with dedication and commitment.

IAFF Local 1159 was proud to have President Hon and Secretary-Treasurer Rolicheck representing our members this week in Washington, D.C. at the IAFF Legislative Conference. They joined a strong Oregon delegation including @orfirefighters @iaff43 @greshamfirefighters @iaff1660 @bendfirefighters @iaff851 and Kingsley Field Local 3340 to meet with Oregon’s U.S. Senators and members of Congress.
Discussions focused on legislation impacting fire fighters nationwide, including the Wildfire Emergency Preparedness Act, protecting collective bargaining rights, expanding apprenticeship and workforce grant funding, improving access to cancer screenings, strengthening mental health support, and fixing No Tax on Overtime language. These issues directly connect to the core priorities our union fights for every day: wages, hours, working conditions, retirement security, and safety.
IAFF General President Ed Kelly summarized the purpose of the conference in his opening remarks: “We don’t represent a political party or a political agenda, we represent firefighters — the very crews that are in the station right now making runs and protecting the public. Those retirees who served for decades on the job who might stop by the firehouse for a cup of coffee. And the generations of IAFF members who will benefit from the work we do this week long after this week is over.”
Engaging in the legislative process ensures firefighters have a seat at the table when decisions are made that impact our profession, our families, and the communities we serve.

Today, 33+ members of IAFF Local 1159 traveled to Seattle to compete in the Firefighter Stairclimb at the Columbia Center. Firefighters from across the country climb 69 floors and 1,356 steps in full turnout gear and on air to raise money for blood cancer research. We’re proud to have the largest team from Oregon represented at this year’s event. Together, our members raised over $20,000 for blood cancer research and patient support. Thank you to everyone who donated and helped support this incredible cause.
