Professional Firefighters of Clackamas County
International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) - Local 1159
The Professional Firefighters Association of Clackamas County is an International Association of Fire Fighters AFL-CIO affiliate Local. Local 1159 represents over 335 firefighters and paramedics from Canby Fire District #62, Clackamas Fire District #1, Estacada Fire District #69, Gladstone Fire Department, Lake Oswego Fire Department, Molalla Fire District #73 and Sandy Fire District #72. Our mission is to ensure that all members are treated fairly and equally focusing on wages, hours, working conditions, retirement securities and safety. It is our goal to improve the standard of living for our members, families and communities we serve.
Sandy Fire District is proposing annexation into Clackamas Fire to make current service improvements permanent and strengthen emergency response in the community. If approved by voters, Sandy Fire District would become part of Clackamas Fire District. Since 2021, Clackamas Fire has been providing service to the residents of Sandy through contracts for service. A YES vote on Measure 3-634 ensures the higher level of service currently provided continues and even expands.
What changes?
Currently Clackamas Fire provides a fire engine with three firefighters 24/7 and a rescue unit 24/7 but for only 12-hours per day. A YES vote would maintain the current staffing and increase the rescue to 24-hours per day. Sandy would have two fully staffed emergency units 24/7—a fire engine and a rescue unit—providing fire protection and advanced life support around the clock. This means no more reduced coverage overnight when demand is still high. Both units provide paramedics with Advanced Life Support capabilities.
Why it matters:
Sandy is a growing community, and current data shows that 20% of the time, multiple emergencies are occurring in Sandy. Having two response units, an engine and a rescue, provides coverage when needed the most. The regional partnership also benefits the community, increasing the number of technically certified firefighters for specialty rescue and wildland firefighting.
Cost effective approach:
Measure 3-634 would increase taxes by $0.22 per $1,000 of assessed home value. This amount is equivalent to what Clackamas Fire residents are currently paying for fire and EMS services.
This proposal ensures Sandy is protected, day and night, now and into the future.

Proud moment for IAFF Local 1159.
This year, our firefighters faced off against @iaff43 in the championship game of the Bill Humbert Memorial Tournament, a long-standing tradition that brings together firefighters from across the region in competition and camaraderie.
Yesterday, Local 1159 came out on top, bringing the championship home.
This tournament is about more than just the final score. It honors the legacy of Bill Humbert while strengthening the bonds between departments that serve our communities every day.
Congratulations to everyone who competed, and thank you to all who helped make this event possible.
