It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of Salt Lake City Fire Fighters IAFF Local 81 President John Stevens. Our deepest condolences go out to the Stevens family, Local 81 and the Professional Fire Fighters of Utah.We are heartbroken over the death of Salt Lake City Firefighter and Local 81 President John Stevens. Johnny was a fierce advocate for our Firefighters, a dedicated Paramedic, and a devoted husband. He was the best of us, and words can’t do him justice- he was just that good.
We will never forget.

At 1:20 pm this afternoon Estacada Firefighters were dispatched to a residential fire in the 36000 block of Tracy Road. On arrival firefighters found a single family residence with heavy fire from the front of the building and a partial roof collapse. A car parked in front of the home was also on fire. Firefighters worked quickly to take the bulk of the heat out of the fire and prevent it from spreading to a nearby structure and another vehicle. All the occupants of the house were able to get out without injury although one individual was evaluated by paramedics but no further EMS care or transport was needed. Clackamas Fire District and AMR also responded and assisted with the fire. 3 engines, 3 water tenders, rehab, chaplain and 3 chiefs all responded. (20 firefighters). The cause is under investigation. Firefighters will remain on scene throughout the evening continuing to put out hotspots and watch for rekindles. AMR Multnomah and Clackamas Counties Clackamas Fire

“Earlier this year, we nearly lost the fire engine at Station 22. We fought to save it, and the City had to use reserves to keep it operating. That's how serious Portland's budget crisis already is. Measure 26-267 would make it worse by permanently diverting millions of dollars every year from the fund that pays for fire, police, 911 dispatch, and Portland Street Response. We simply can't afford it.”
- Isaac McLennan, President, Portland Fire Fighters' Association, IAFF Local 43
