The Professional Firefighters Association of Clackamas County is an International Association of Fire Fighters AFL-CIO affiliate Local. Local 1159 represents over 335 firefighters and paramedics from Canby Fire District #62, Clackamas Fire District #1, Estacada Fire District #69, Gladstone Fire Department, Lake Oswego Fire Department, Molalla Fire District #73 and Sandy Fire District #72. Our mission is to ensure that all members are treated fairly and equally focusing on wages, hours, working conditions, retirement securities and safety. It is our goal to improve the standard of living for our members, families and communities we serve.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗡𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗽𝘀 — 𝗢𝗻-𝗗𝘂𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗿 𝗢𝗳𝗳-𝗗𝘂𝘁𝘆, 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗕𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀
For more than 28 years, Mark Oelschlager has served the community of City of Lake Oswego as a firefighter with Lake Oswego Fire Department and since 2010, he has served our members as a Vice President of IAFF Local 1159.
That commitment to service doesn’t end when the shift is over. While mowing his lawn at his Happy Valley home, Mark spotted smoke and flames coming from the City’s Public Works facility across the street. Within moments, the lawn mower was abandoned, 911 was called, and Mark was back to doing what firefighters do. He jumped the fence, gained access to the property, opened the locked gate for responding crews, and then helped Clackamas Fire Engine 6 pull hose and secure a hydrant so crews could quickly get to work.
For those who know Mark, none of this comes as much of a surprise. Whether it’s serving the public, representing his fellow firefighters, or simply helping a neighbor, Mark has spent nearly three decades stepping up when people need him. The City of Happy Valley recently recognized Mark for his actions, but we also want to recognize him for something bigger: a career built around service to others. On-duty or off-duty, in uniform or in a T-shirt and flip-flops, sometimes firefighters are just going to be firefighters. We’re proud to have Mark representing the members of Local 1159 and even prouder to call him one of our own.

Our deepest condolences to the Anderson family and our brothers and sisters at Marion County Professional Firefighters Local 2557. Our hearts break for your loss.Tragically, our brother, Captain Michael Anderson, passed away off-duty on September 2nd, 2026. Captain Anderson served the citizens of Marion County Fire District #1 for over 20 years and still had many more ahead of him. He was known on shift as a respected, honorable, and truly enjoyable person to be around. He knew how to make a whole room laugh, with a single look. He offered heartfelt advice to firefighters, new dads, and upcoming captains in training. He leaves behind a beautiful family, his wife and three daughters. Please consider donating to help them during this unimaginable time. Your thoughts and prayers are appreciated.
Mike's Local 2557 brothers and sisters would also like to thank the outpouring of support they have received from the first responder community. It is extremely significant in the way the fire service family pulls together in times like this. Stay safe everyone. We love you Mike.

IAFF Local 1159 is proud to stand with Representative Matt Bunch of House District 51.I’m proud to announce that I’ve been endorsed by of both the Clackamas County Firefighters and the Oregon State Council of Fire Fighters.
There is no greater responsibility of government than keeping our communities safe. Every day, firefighters and first responders put their lives on the line to protect our families, respond to emergencies, and help our neighbors on some of their most difficult days. Their support means a great deal to me.
As your State Representative, I believe we need to stand behind the men and women who stand ready to protect us. That means making sure our first responders have the staffing, equipment, training, and resources they need, while also addressing the challenges of recruiting and retaining qualified public safety professionals.
This is especially important in House District 51, where firefighters serve communities that range from growing cities to rural areas to forests and face everything from medical emergencies and structure fires to wildfires and natural disasters.
I’m grateful to the Clackamas County Firefighters and the Oregon State Council of Fire Fighters for their trust and endorsement. I’ll continue working in Salem to strengthen public safety and make sure the people who keep Oregon safe know that we have their backs.
